Anvil Motion’s High Tech Futuristic Kitchen Cabinets
Anvil Motion, a kitchen cabinet manufacturer, has created one of the the most high tech kitchen cabinets that I have ever laid eyes upon. Ordinarily I would never write about kitchen cabinets on FuncFash, but after you see what these cabinets can do and how they work you’ll understand our infatuation with them.
First of all, kitchen cabinets on their own aren’t very exciting. Sure you have different designs and different materials, but for the most part they all kind of do the same thing. They swing open and they swing shut. Quite boring by FuncFash standards.
However, the Anvil Motion cabinet solution is very different. They claim to be the “First Fully Automated and Integrated Cabinetry System in the World.” And from the looks of it I’d believe them. Just watch the video below and you’ll understand.
If you go on the Anvil Motion website they have an interactive demo kitchen setup. The first thing you’ll notice is that the cabinets are automated via motors and servos and instead of swinging open they open and close by moving up and down. Playing around in their virtual kitchen we found some things that stand out and make their cabinet system special in our hearts:
Biometric Security
The cabinets can use of fingerprint recognition software. This allows owners to control access to certain drawers or cabinets which may hold dangerous household chemicals, kitchenware, or firearms you don’t want unauthorized people to access (reminds me of a scene from Mr. and Mrs. Smith)
Touch Activated Drawers
Touch devices are no longer limited to the iPhone and iPod Touch. Owners can open and close drawers by using a “touch with a smooth, gliding motion.” The system also figures out if you are trying to open multiple drawers and remembers the order in which they opened. For people worried that they might close on your hands they’ve incorporated safegards to prevent that from happening.
Apppliance Management
Since everything the panels open and close vertically this allows owners to hide and store their appliances behind these panels in addition to their other household items. But if you are worried about your house burning down thanks to trapped heat by an oven you left on the system uses temperature sensitive cabinets that decide when it’s safe to close.
Automation
Everything is controlled electronically so this allows a customization and flexibility on how and when you want your cainets to open or close. Want everything to open at once at 6 AM? Just program it and now you have obedient cabinets.
It’s a pretty cool system right? After I saw it I definitely wanted to own one of these systems, but how much would something like this cost? Unfortunately I couldn’t find any information from their website or anywhere else online so I decided to go right to the source and contact Anvil Motion.
I didn’t know what to expect, but surprisingly they were very responsive. I was put in touch with Kip Deem a Project manager at Anvil Motion who was able to answer some of my questions.
How Much Does it Cost?
Anvil Motion Cabinet Systems are completely custom and tailored to the end user. Because of this, there is a wide gap in the pricing of the product, depending on many variables such as wood specie, interior finish, finish process, accessories, guide type, and media attachments just to name a few.
However to give somewhat of an idea, Anvil Motion systems generally run between $2,000 and $4,000 per lineal foot of cabinetry in the kitchen. This includes the upper cabinets and the base cabinets but does not include any countertops or appliances.
How Does the Order, Design, and Build Process Work?
Anvil Motion has a great design team that assists the interior design team and/or design architect team in coming up with a design that is a fit to the client. Our Project Managers oversee each facet of the project from initial design, to pricing, to on site preparations, through the installation and integration, and finishing up with the custom set up, customized to the individual(s) of the home. We have a world’s first product but also offer world class service to make the process from start to finish extremely effective and coordinated.
Can I Have a Free Anvil Motion System?
No.
Ok, so I never asked Kip if he would give me a free system, but I’m guessing unless he and Anvil Motion are extremely giving that they probably would have politely turned me down. Maybe I should have asked…
It’s great seeing these kinds of innovations happening in the home. Normally we see a lot of innovative household gadgets like robot vacuums, super blenders, Slapchops, etc.. However, it is refreshing to see companies reexamining the ways we interact with something as traditional simple as a kitchen cabinet or say a standard door lock (like the evolution touchscreen lock).
Unfortunately for the common poor person (like myself) it’s not the cheapest set of cabinets that you can buy on the market, but looking at what you get and the service you get I’d say for the right customer this is a win/win situation. I just have to start saving up my pennies…many many pennies.
FuncFash-ness: 9/10
- Functional: 4/5 (as cabinets go this probably has the most features and functions currently available)
- Fashionable: 5/5 (with a whole kitchen covered by panels things definitely look sexier…and mysterious too)
