The Curious Case of Centrios Floating Speaker
The Centrios Floating Speaker system from the description is a wireless speaker that can float in your pool. You have a base station where you can plug in your iPod and then the floating speaker part which can…float in the pool. Pretty cool right? Tunes in the pool (or bathtub if you really wanted).
The guys over at Butterscotch.com Gadget TV did a video review on it which I’ve embedded below:
So I was all excited when I first heard about a floating speaker, but after watching the video review I do have some doubts. They said that the top part of the speaker is not that waterproof. What!? Why the hell would you stick that in the pool then? Sure the bottom needs to be waterproof, but shouldn’t the whole thing? So unless you plan on putting this speaker in the pool when no one is swimming in the pool then it might be a good deal.
How much does it cost? MSRP is $99 Canadian (that’s like $5 US, right?) but doesn’t look like you can purchase in the United States. Though from my brief internet investigation it doesn’t look like you can buy it anywhere right now. Here’s what it looked like when it was listed in a store, thesource.ca (courtesy of google cache):

Great! It’s on sale for like 70% I’ll buy one! If you happen to click further you are greeted by:

That’s right “the requested product can not be found.” So this can only mean that maybe someone got electrocuted by the Floating Speaker and they had to pull it from all the stores…that’s the only logical explanation. So until they fix their waterproof issues it looks like no floating music for us…which does raise the question can’t we just put a stereo next to the pool?
If you are interested I did find the official product description:
