iPhone Map Heads Up Display for Bikers or Walkers

For people who are too lazy to whip out their iPhone to check their location or to look for directions on their mapping software some forward thinking individuals at Ubiquitous Entertainment, a Japanese company, have created a prototype that can attach to your glasses or helmet that will display your iPhone map screen on its mini LCD screen.  They call it the iPhone ARider.

Leave it to the Japanese to create something straight from the future and something out of a science fiction movie.  The part in the video where the heads up displays retracts moves toward the eye actually did remind me of a movie.  The Last Starfighter!

I’m positive this is where they had the inspiration for their ARider heads up display.

What’s even more interesting about this product is what the creators of this product have to say about their invention.   They mention the resolution of the mini LCD screen is not the greatest and while in theory this could be used for navigating around town on your bike…

Considering the safety, it should not be used during the ride.

They recommend walking as a better more safer use.  As for how they attached the LCD screen to the helmet you would have thought they used some high tech engineering, but that actual solution was…

it was fixed on the helmet with Scotch tape

While a little disappointing it’s great to see people willing to experiment and go crazy with different ideas.  Maybe I should get these guys to start working on our real life search glasses idea?  Read more about their experiment on their blog.
