Portable Disguised Amps: Play Wherever Ye Be
I’ve always wanted to learn how to play guitar…especially electric guitar. Growing up I played violin which was not as cool as guitar. At gatherings and parties people always want you to break out your guitar and “lay down” some tunes. However, with the violin no one is begging you to break out your violin and bust out Mozart’s Violin Concerto 5.
While electric guitar definitely has a cooler image compared to just normal guitar the problem is that you always need to carry around an amp where you go so you can jam. Most of the times these amps can get pretty large and kind of pain to bring wherever you go.
However thanks to 2 products, the Smokey Amp and the Amp in the Can, you can practically jam wherever go.
Smokey Amp
The Smokey Amp is called the “Smokey Amp” since the amp is housed in recycled cigarette box. They managed to fit the speaker and battery all into a compact box. Of course it’s not the most powerful amp, but for those cases where you might want to jam with with the amp in your pocket there’s nothing stopping you. At $30 bucks it’s not that expensive either.
Amp in the Can
The Amp in the Can is exactly what it sounds like-an amp that is housed in an aluminum can. I’m not sure it’s an actual beer can that they use, but the size looks pretty close. It also takes a 9v battery like the Smokey Amp, but from the sounds and look of it it seems like the Amp in the Can has a little more power than Smokey (which would explain why it’s also more expensive at $55 a can).
On another note I would have to say the marketing of Amp in the Can is a lot more “sexy” than Smokey Amp (they hire more scanitily clad women to promote their products:
