Here is the Invisible Bluetooth Earpiece.  It achieves  its “invisible” title by way of being extremely small.   It’s so small that you stick it in your ear canal so no one else can see it.  Whereas the body guards headsets are normally somewhat transparent they are still clearly visibl the Invisible Bluetooth Earpiece is undetectable since you stuck it in your ear.

At first I was kind of freaked out about sticking something in my ear, cause how would you get it out?  But luckily they have high powered magnets included that instantly suck the headset out of your ear (video further down will show that part in action).  It still is kind of freaky, but not that bad I guess…just don’t lose the magnet.

Even cooler is that using bluetooth technology and wireless transmission technology you don’t have to run wires from the headset to an external battery.  It is powered magically (wirelessly) through a metal necklace loop that you wear around your neck and under your clothes to further conceal the device.

After you place the headset in your ear and connect all the wires you can then connect to the headset via either a bluetooth enabled cell phone or 2 way radio.  If you are connected via a cell phone you can have some one call you and they’ll be able to hear exactly what you hear and say and as whisper sweet nothings into your ear.

The device has been used for years by law enforcement agencies and just recently came on the market for us normal folk to enjoy.  This means they probably have something even cooler than this.  This video gives you some more idea about the product.

In the video they give you some good ways to use the device which include:

• Board Meetings
• Undercover Law Enforcement Agents
• Journalists on Assignment
• First Dates
• Actors and Actresses Can Be Fed Lines

However they mention some specific uses where you “can’t” use it…though I don’t know if they could really stop you.

• While Gambling
• During Poker Games
• For Tests Or School Assignments
• Illegal Activities

Gambling would be a pretty cool way to use it.  Those guys from the movie 21 could have used this…instead of their stupid over-the-top body signals.

The other cool thing about this jacket is its ability to “transform” from normal sleeved jacket into a sleeveless jacket (ie, a vest).  It’s annoying when you are wearing a jacket, it gets warm, and then you have to tie your jacket around your waist if you want to take it off.  Now with removable sleeves you can just tear those suckers off and go into cooling mode.

The ability to fold into itself and removable sleeves are among my favorite features of the Tropical jacket, but it does have some other noteworthy features and abilities.

• It’s got 18 pockets.  18 pockets!  That’s a lot of places to hide drugs, weapons, or other illegal paraphernalia
• Clear pockets.   Some of the inside pockets are clear so if you put a cell phone there you could look who’s calling before you even take the phone out of the pocket
• Beverage holder.  Inside the front pocket is an elastic band that will hold your beverage in the upright position

It’s got a bunch of other cool features like a earphone cord management and a key holder, but to me I still love the fact that it can transform.

When I buy stuff like this I feel like I’m getting two pieces of clothing for the price of one (which is why I like reversible stuff too!)

If you like that they have a whole series of these videos.  Here is one featuring the “kids” (swearing kids is so funny!)…

So the actual product itself, the Powermat charging system, is nothing that we haven’t seen before.  Just like the Wildcharge wire-free system it has a base plate system which you plug in and then you attach different devices that have been outfitted with a power receiver (the base plate basically sends electricity to the receiver).  Fundamentally the two systems are the same, though it seems Powermat has spent more time polishing the product and making it more “sexy.”

The sexiness comes in the overall design of the system.  It’s sleek and even comes in a portable foldable version.  Other bells and whistles that it includes:

• Audio notification when you start and stop charging (sounds like something out of the future)
• Visual indication via an LED light that turns on and off when it charges
• Magnetic orientation (meaning a magnet in the base plate station will keep the device attached to the charging plate and automatically orient itself)
• A built-in USB slot for old school normal wired charging (in case of an emergency I suppose)
• Several charging connector options: iPod/iPhone dock cradle, universal charging adapters, cell phone integrated receiver stations, etc…

It’s fun to see the same product approaching the market differently.  Powermat is definitely going after the sexy Apple sleek look…while Wildcharge has been going after the utilitarian approach (ie no bells and whistles just does it job of charging).  If I were to guess Powermat has a much larger budget for marketing.

Essentially these two wireless charging systems are the same.   The main difference seems to be the attention that Powermat has paid to product design.  I like how the universal charging receiving station has all the tips integrated into it (so this way you don’t have to go rummaging through drawers to find adapter tips)

The portable version seems pretty useful for traveling as it would allow you to cut out the number of separate AC adapters you would need to pack and carry.  It also even comes in a convenient traveling case.  Powermat thought of everything didn’t they?

Portable version folds down easy!

It’s pretty straightforward and similar to the other spy video camera’s we’ve looked at.  This time instead of hiding the camera in your sunglasses or shirt button the camera is slyly hidden in your baseball cap.  The main parts are the wireless camera that sits in the hat with the lens poking out a tiny hole on the front.  The camera sends the video signal to a wireless DVR recorder that you put in your pocket which allows you to record video to an SD card.

The only downside is that you can’t record audio.

Ok, so back to why I like Chinavasion.  Of all the Chinese electronic wholesalers I’d say they are the funniest and most honest about marketing the products they sell.   I mean on the solar vest we profiled they featured a nerdy looking guy picking up all these chicks since he helped them out by charging their electronic devices with his solar vest.  How many people selling a solar vest would come up with that?

And now with the Spy Baseball Cap they’ve hit marketing genius again.  If you check out the Spy Cap product page they have some funny “in-action” pictures of how and where you can use this product.  Basically they just advertised the product as how most people would use it (or most guys would us it) to take clandestine video of pretty girls.

Notice, the “You sly dog!” printed on the image.  Ordinarily I would add that kind of commentary to pictures I find, but here Chinavasion has saved me the trouble.  The guy is indeed a “sly dog!”

Unlike other hidden cameras you’ll notice there are no pinholes where the camera lens sticks out in order to record video.  The lens sits behind a translucent side panel which allows light to come in so the panel is completely flush.  Unless you accidentally knocked over this tissue box or you used a camera hunter you wouldn’t know this camera was in the room.

What kind of stuff does the jacket allow the pet to carry?  A whole bunch of useful stuff…for your pet (you’ll have to ask permission with Fluffy to share their water).

While a lot of these items make sense some of them make you raise an eye.  Aroma oil?  What’s the point of that?  According to their website (it’s in Japanese) and from what google translate tells me the point of the oil is to help your dog or cat relax when they are stressed.  More assuming is to include the google translation:

This “rescue remedy” is to soothe the feelings of panic and became a disaster, is dedicated aroma oil.  You can also use in humans.  Shaking like a cat owner would love comes through to the dog.

While I’m happy to report that I haven’t shook like a cat since that time I got lost at Toy’s R Us, but the next time I have to speak in public I’ll be sure to take a few shots of this aroma oil to help ease the panic.

I thought Pet Emergency Jacket was kind of cool at first, but then when I really started thinking about it I did have some issues with it

• Why do pets get fireproof clothing before us humans?  I mean how many of you have a fireproof jacket?
• In a real emergency wouldn’t you just grab your pet and run?  Why would you take the time to strap in your pet (who most likely will struggle with you to get this jacket on) when it might just be smarter to flee the danger…
• I like the fact that you can turn your cat into a mule, but really how much can they carry?  And then all the stuff is for them, what about us humans?
• You probably will stress your pet out more forcing them to wear this (especially if Fluffy isn’t used to beast of burden tasks) on top of the stress already brought on by the emergency

The dog in the video looks so ashamed and embarrassed.  That could be your pet too!

This is where the Wireless Mini Camera Hunger comes in.  It scans all wireless frequencies for video signals and if it finds a signal it starts beeping.  But that’s not the coolest part.  Not only will it tell you a video signal is there, but it also has an lcd screen where you can see the actual video feed that the camera is putting out.  You can find these signals up to 500 feet away.  Find the camera before they find you.

Maybe you’re thinking…”man, this might be a little overkill…I mean who would be spying on me?”  Well, you’d be surprised what’s going on out there in our crazy little world.  There was a teacher who was arrested in New Jersey for placing spy cameras underneath secretaries desks:

Police said that two miniature cameras were placed underneath secretaries’ desks in the main office area of the school. The cameras had been there for about one week before a staff member leaning under the desk to plug in a cell phone charger on Wednesday morning noticed something odd.

After turning on the propane and igniting via an electric starter the Solaire Grill can out put 14,000 BTU’s which can bring the temperature up over 1600 degrees Fahrenheit in under 3:00 minutes (or as Wired magazine tested 2 minutes and 30 seconds).  This is approximately 3 times more heat than traditional coal fired grills.  This means succulent chicken breasts in 10 minutes rather than 20 minutes of normal cooking.   When you think about it you could be finished grilling and eating while another group is still trying to get the fire lit on their grill.

When I first heard about infrared cooking I didn’t know how it work so I didn’t a little research.  Before, I thought infrared cooking had to do something with pointing a bunch of tv remote controls at a piece of meat and pushing the on button all at the same time.  However, this is not how it works (though that might be kind of cool way to cook).

Infrared grilling and cooking works by using propane to heat a ceramic plate that’s at the base of the grill.  The propane transfers the heat to the ceramic tile which then cooks the meat.  So really the ceramic tile is no different than using traditional coals.  Though the biggest difference is that these tiles heat up much faster and can transfer just as much if not more heat than coals.  This makes for speedy cooking and less mess during clean up.

Other advantages of the Solaire Infrared Grill:

• Heat is more evenly distributed to facilitate even and consistent cooking
• No need to deal with lighter fluid, coals, and other hassles with traditional grilling
• Cleaning is easy and quick
• Easy to transport and carry
• Locks in food flavors by allowing you to sear your food

The one down side that has been reported is that this grill can use up a lot of propane (over half a tank in a 45 minute session).  This is understandable considering how hot and fast this thing can heat up.  It should be noted too that after grilling to give the grill some time to cool down before packing up an leaving.  It takes some time to cool down from 1600 degrees.

If you go looking to buy one keep in mind they have two different versions one is the Solaire Infrared Grill 304 Stainless Steel and the other is the Solaire Infrared Grill 316 Stainless Steel model.  The difference is the type of stainless steel used in its construction.  What is the difference between 304 and 316 stainless steel?  304 stainless steel is the normal kind of stainless steel you see in everyday application whereas 316 stainless steel is a higher grade steel which adds extra protection against corrosion in hostile environments especially salt water (like by the beach).  316 stainless steel is also more expensive.

After each wash you are supposed to get a dose of approximately 200mg of caffeine which is twice the amount in a normal cup of coffee.  Of note the soap also contains calories so if you were starving you could also eat it.

The real question is, does it work?

The science says technically the body should be able to absorb caffeine through the skin (though i find it weird that anything cab absorb through the skin). However some have their doubts to how effective this absorption process. There’s a review of Shower Shock over at Ars Technica where they tried out this soap. The author found that it did add a little boost to his morning though he didn’t think it could replace his morning boost with his normal cup of coffee. He put up this nifty graph to describe the effects of Shower Shock.

For the more visual of you guys there was a news report on Shower Shock soap that had a guinea pig try it out.

The test subject “Bobby Bones” found that Shower Shock soap smelled like peppermint and when applied to his body gave him a tingling sensation much like Ben Gay.  Apparently this caused some discomfort to his more intimate areas.  In the end he gave it a “thumbs down” stating that he didn’t think it could replace his morning coffee and Red Bull ritual.

Either way, I still think Shower Shock is a pretty cool product.  I just wish they could find some additional things to deliver to your body via the Shower Shock absorption process.  It’d be perfect if I could shower and at the same time get my morning nutrients so I don’t need to eat breakfast.  For people who do other drugs like heroin…imagine… no more needles!

If you live in a sunny area like California or Florida you know how useful a sunshade is.  If you have black leather interior on a sunny day one of these shades will save you from getting 1st degree burns.  However, the thing that always bothered me was that considering how hot my car got there must be a lot of energy that is wasted.  What if I could take that energy to power other stuff?  Or what if I could save that power for later?  Hence the idea for the solar sun shade was born.

It’s actually a really simple idea and you can actually do it now.  There are 2 things that are needed:

1. Solar panel that can double as a sun shade
2. A portable battery back that can store the solar energy

Basically you would just hook the two devices together and then while your car is baking out in the sun you can take pleasure in the fact that you are storing energy that you can use to charge or power your cell phones, iPods, computers, TV’s, and other electronics.

To actually build my solar sun shade this is what I would use…

SOLAR PANEL:   Brunton Solaris 26 Foldable Solar Array ($300)

This is a solar panel that generates 26 watts of power which apparently is a lot of power.  The size unfolded is 21.5″x37.5″ (which is just about the size of regular sunshade).  It also folds down compact into the size of a sheet of paper about an inch thick (11″x8.5″x1″).

It also comes with a bunch of connection cables so you can charge your devices by plugging them directly into your “solar sun shade.”  However, the downside of this is that you would have to leave your devices in the car as you were charging them.

The best setup for our solar sun shade is to hook it up to an external portable battery that after charging we could use to power up anything our hearts would desire.  That’s where the Brunton Solo power storage units come into play.

PORTABLE BATTERY:  Brunton Solo Power Storage Unit ($222-$324)

The Brunton Solo power storage units store energy in a lightweight lithium polymer battery and come in two main flavors.  One is the Brunton Solo 7.5 amp/hour and the other is the Brunton Solo 15 amp/hour unit.  Basically the larger one (15 amp/hour) can store more power and hence charge longer and run electronics longer.

In addition to charging electronics this battery can run and power electronics for a significant time.  Below are some reported times for how long you can run devices on a full charge.

In our car solar sunshade application we will be charging this battery using the solar power panels, however you can also charge this battery with any 12 volt electronic source (like your car’s cigarette lighter).  This makes it convenient to charge when the sun isn’t cooperating.

Even cooler is that included with the Brunton Solo is a 120 volt DC Inverter which converts its to 110 AC which allows you to charge and run your AC devices (like laptops, tv’s, playstation’s, etc…)

By attaching some suction cups to the Solaris panel and combining it with the Solo power storage unit we now have our car solar sunshade that will not only keep your car nice and cool while sitting in the sun, but will also store energy to power up and any electronic device that you may need on the road.

Used only as a car sunshade it is quite pricey, but the nice thing is that you can use this solar panel and battery storage for a variety of purposes: camping, tailgating, on the go computing, etc…  The car sunshade idea is just one way to get the most out of your solar panel since I know must of us are parking our cars outside and why not get some free energy courtesy of the sun?
